New Art

I just completed 4 minis on 5 x 5 canvas. I prefer gallery canvas. It gives you an extra 1 1/2 inches to continue the painting on all four sides. I usually paint the sides black but I like to wrap the painting around every once in a while, especially on mini-paintings. So in order to get the full view you have to see the sides as well (below)!

Inspiration

Like a wild animal, the soul is tough, resilient, resourceful, savvy, and self-sufficient: it knows how to survive in hard places.
A quote by Parker J. Palmer

Symbolism

Deer Symbolism:

  • Gentleness
  • Ability to move through life and obstacles with grace
  • Being in touch with inner child, innocence
  • Being sensitive and intuitive
  • Vigilance, ability to change directions quickly
  • Magical ability to regenerate, being in touch with life’s mysteries

Lamb | Mary Claire | Acrylic on canvas | 5 x 5 x 1.5″

Lamb Symbolism:

  • Sheep spirit animals represent an innocent aspect of yourself; your childhood, child-like qualities characterized by innocence, gentleness
  • Vulnerability with a negative meaning, weakness, vulnerability that could turn into powerlessness
  • Vulnerability with a positive meaning: Self-acceptance, ability to respect your own limits
  • A common meaning for the sheep totem is a part of yourself that tends to conform to social norms or family values.

Benefits Drawing Has on the Brain

  • Improves hand-eye coordination.
  • It can actually add synapses to your neurotransmitters This means that memories and experiences stored in your brain can become stronger, more vivid, and easier to access.
  • Drawing helps you access the right side of your brain. Most people wind up as 80% analytical left brained problem solvers. More right brained activity allows for greater creative problem solving.
  • Intuition increases.
  • Produces positive brain chemistry like Serotonin, Endorphins, Dopamine, and Norepinephrine.
  • Your brain stem can actually get thicker.
  • Your awareness of your surroundings can get sharper.
  • Your memory can improve.
  • It produces an overall state of alertness that all of your other brain functions can use for improvement.

Do you need any other reason?
